Angad Bedi and Neha Dhupia took the nation by surprise when two days after Sonam Kapoor–Anand Ahuja‘s fancy wedding, they took to Twitter to announce their extremely low-key wedding at a Gurudwara that had just family members for attendance. Everyone was rather taken aback since noone had a whiff of them even dating. Now after almost a fortnight the two have spilled the beans to Bombay Times about how they met, started dating and eventually got married.
It was back in the days, when Angad used to play U-19 cricket in Delhi, when he first spotted Neha in really tiny shorts, prepping for the Miss India pageant. Years later they met in Mumbai, and while he was interested in her, she reportedly just wanted to be friends. Since then they had been in many relationships. Their friends were apparently always aware that Angad had feelings for Neha. It was only four years before that the couple started dating, although Angad had proposed to Neha before that as well. At the time of proposing, the Tiger Zinda Hai actor told Neha, “I don’t want to be just in a relationship with you. Either you are my wife or nothing”.
The couple never wanted to keep their relationship a secret, but wanted their special day to be a private affair. Speaking about it, Angad told BT, “What happens is that, the process of making up our minds, planning the wedding and inviting people is never-ending. When we went to Delhi, we didn’t think that we were going to get married. I went in my track pants and T-shirt along with one bag in my hand. We intended to stay overnight and come back. On the way, we discussed how we were going to approach the topic of marriage with her parents. Neha still consults her parents before making major decisions. I just told them that I wanted to marry their daughter. There was silence for a bit and then her father said that he didn’t have a problem, but that I should speak to my parents about it.”
Furthermore, Angad revealed that his parents were very supportive. However, it was his father, former cricketer, Bhishen Singh Bedi, who gave strict instructions that they should keep the wedding low-key or else “the press would get a whiff of it and there would be OB vans outside the Gurudwara. ” Angad maintains that the best part about them is that they are friends, which should be the foundation of any relationship. Meanwhile, the two are back in the city and are getting busy with their work commitments. Neha Dhupia will next be seen in Lust Stories on Netflix, while Angad will be seen in Soorma.
