Taarak Mehta, best known for his Gujarati column, Duniya Ne Undha Chasma and a TV series based on the same, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 87 due to prolonged illness. While we mourn the death of the noted columnist, here’s taking a look at the life of the iconic figure that was Taarak Mehta:
Taarak Mehta, who comes from a Jain family born and brought up in Ahemdabad, Gujarat. He was living with his second wife, Indu, after his first wife left him. His daughter, Ishaani, lives in the US and has two kids.

His first weekly column was published in Chitralekha. His humurous take on contemporary issues made him immensely popular amongst the masses.
It was his column Duniya Ne Undha Chasma that got him more fame. In 2008 SAB TV began a show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah which draws its content Duniya Ne Undha Chasma. Such has been the content of the show that it has become extremely popular with the masses and has become the flagship show of the channel.
He was also awarded the Padma Shri in 2015 which is one of the fourth highest civilian awards in our country.
