Self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insan’s forthcoming film MSG: The Messenger of God has fallen prey to censorship issues. The fans have come out in support of the film and #iSupportMSG has been trending on micro-blogging site Twitter.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has refused to give a green signal to guru Ram Rahim Singh’s film for fear that it might incite communal violence. This is indeed sad news for all his followers (thousands of them, apparently), but the fact is, MSG has been a butt of social media jokes ever since the trailer was officially released. Apparently, the Censor Board of UK has approved the film.

“It has been unanimously decided to refer the film to the tribunal FCAT,” CBFC chairperson Leela Samson told PTI. Even though the hilarious trailer video received over more than a million hits on YouTube, the censor board is reluctant to clear the rockstar Baba’s film for release on January 16, 2015. An official of the Censor Board also told The Indian Express that the filmmakers and promoters announced the release date without the Board’s clearance.

The story of MSG revolves around Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insan who portrays himself to be God. Apparently, the censor board is unhappy with the plot of the film, which has Ram Rahim performing miracles and curing terminal diseases.

Earlier, the Dera Sacha Sauda chief who has produced, directed and acted in MSG: The Messenger of God said that he wants to connect to the youth through MSG and there was nothing objectionable about the content of the film. “The only aim of the film is to spread the message against social evils like drug addiction and female foeticide. There is nothing wrong in it,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Home Ministry is also tense about MSG, as certain Sikh organisations and individuals have been opposing the movie. They are also of the view that because the DSS chief has been facing serious criminal cases, his film shouldn’t be allowed to release.
