While she has some visitors from the film industry, no one from Dr Bhupenda Hazarika’s family has yet come to the hospital to meet her or extend any kind of support. In her brief chat to Spotboye, Lajmi said, “I am in touch but with only one of my sister-in-law. Otherwise, I am not in touch with them after Bhupenda passed away.”

For the uninitiated, Lajmi and the legendary Indian playback singer, lyricist, musician, singer, poet and film-maker Bhupenda, though not married to each other, had been partners for almost 40 years, first meeting when she was only 17 and he was 45. She went on to be his lover and manager and grew to incorrigibly love him and also his family. But she knows better than to brood over the fact that sometimes those whom you know and have expectations from don’t even bother to call and talk to you. As she sums her feelings up, “What to do, life is like that.”
