After much speculation, it’s finally announced that actress Kangana Ranaut will be seen playing celebrated politician and actress Jayalalithaa in her biopic. The announcement was made on Kangana’s 32nd birthday today, on March 23. The film titled as Jaya in Hindi and Thalaivi in Tamil is being in in two languages – Hindi and Tamil. The biopic is being written by KV Vijayendra Prasad, the writer who penned down the script for the blockbuster Baahubali series and Kangana’s last release Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. It’s being directed by Vijay who’s considered one of the leading filmmakers in the South Indian film industry and has helmed films like Madrasapattinam and Deiva Thirumagal.

Expressing her excitement over playing the major role, Kangana released a statement in the media. She said, “Jayalalithaa ji is one of the biggest female success stories of this century. She was a superstar and went on to become an iconic politician, it’s a great concept for a mainstream film. I am honoured to be a part of this mega project.”

Calling the film a ‘big responsibility’, director Vijay said, “Jayalalithaa madam was one of the most prominent leaders of our country. Making a film on her life is a big responsibility and we are going to do it with utmost care and honesty. Am proud and happy with our association with one of India’s biggest star and the very talented Kangana Ranaut ji to portray the dynamic role of our very Dynamic leader.”

Producer Shaailesh R Singh said, “This is my fifth collaboration with Kangana. Working with her is always an enriching experience and I’m glad that this film is based on an eminent personality.”

Apart from Jaya, Kangana also has Panga, directed by Ashwini Iyer Tiwari, in her pipeline.
