In what is being assumed as an act of intolerance after Sandalwood movie star Darshan Thoogudeep and KGF star Yash pledged their support to Sumalatha Ambareesh ahead of Lok Sabha Elections 2019, Darshan’s house was targetted by miscreants who threw stones at his residence in the wee hours of Saturday. Sumalatha is contesting for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Mandya and apparently the JDS leaders, after chiding Darshan publicly, were against him and Yash for taking a month off from their shooting and instead devoting that time to campaign for former Telugu actor, Sumalatha.
The incident was reported by Darshan’s domestic help, Srinivas, who woke up reportedly around 1 am in the wee hours of March 23, by the sound of stones hitting the windows. According to media report, Srinivas reported that the perpetrators had run away by the time he went out to inspect and said that since the actor was away shooting, there were no vehicles in the house else the damage could have been massive.
While no case has been registered, the police reportedly visited Darshan’s house on Saturday to provide him with security and to prevent any untoward incident, two policemen have been deployed at Yash’s residence in Hosakerehalli. A passer-by hurled stones at Darshan’s residence in Ideal Homes Township, and one of the windows adjacent to the main door was damaged. We have obtained the CCTV footage to identify the accused, and find out his motive for doing so,” a senior police officer told The New Indian Express.
Sumalatha Ambareesh has been gaining popularity and apart from Darshan and Yash, many stalwarts from the Sandalwood fraternity have pledged their support to the widow of the recently demised Ambareesh. She is contesting the elections independently now after having rejected the seat from the Congress Party. Mandya constituency has been the winning constituency for Ambareesh consecutively three times. Sumalatha condemned the act on Darshan’s house and said that such threats cannot affect them and their supporters.
