There’s a great news for all Kumkum Bhagya fans. After ending the period drama Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani, which used to air on Zee TV, the channel has planned to run a 60 minutes special of Kumkum Bhagya until the spin-off Kundali Bhagya goes on-air from July 12. Until the 9.30 to 10.00 slot is occupied by the upcoming spin-off show, fans of Kumkum Bhagya will be able to view their favourite show for an hour.
After Ishqbaaaz’s spin-off Dil Bole Oberoi, we will now see a Zee TV’s popular show Kumkum Bhagya’s spin-off, which is produced by Balaji Telefilms. KumKum Bhagya was first premiered in April 2014, which is an adaptation of the Jane Austen novel ‘Sense and Sensibility’. The show was about a middle-class Punjabi family where a mother wants to see both her daughters to be happily married but given the chemistry of Abhi (Shabbir Ahluwalia) and Pragya (Sriti Jha), the show soon became a love story.
“Kumkum Bhagya is at a very crucial point in the story and the one-hour special is to highlight the story line. The special episodes won’t be related to the spin-off,” said a Zee TV source in a statement to a portal.
Speaking of the reason lies behind the spinoff, Ekta Kapoor at the show’s launch had stated, “This is not my first spin-off; I have done a spin-off earlier with ‘Kutumb’ but it didn’t work. The reason I chose ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ was that it gave young people the strength to stand for themselves. It made them believe that simplicity is beautiful and destiny is out there for them. Pragya was the first TV character who said no to dowry and broke the marriage; it was never done before. As the story progressed, we introduced a lot of new elements, but I felt that something was missing. That’s how we came up with Kundali Bhagya.”
