Kamal Haasan’s daughter Akshara Haasan has been missing in action post her debut Bollywood film, Shamitabh. Now after a gap of 2 years, the star kid is back in action with a light-hearted comedy, Laali Ki Shaadi Mein Laaddoo Deewana. The film, features Vivaan Shah, (last seen in Happy New Year), addresses the issue of teenage pregnancy. In the film, Akshara who is pregnant gets married to her beau. The promo teasers feature a glimpse of her as a bride and a baby bump.

Laali Ki Shaadi Mein Laaddoo Deewana aims at giving a social message to the audience with their plot. But it seems like the makers have invited a trouble this time. Their whole agenda of addressing a serious issue have gone for a toss. We hear that some activists have objected the scene where the pregnant Akshara is taking pheras in a scene.  They claim that according to Hindu customs if a pregnant woman takes saat pheras, the child in her womb also gets married to the man. The film’s producer, TP Aggarwal, confirmed the reports of receiving a message about chopping the phera portion from the film soon after the promos went on air. But he refused to pay any heed to it. Now, these activists began demonstrating outside his Andheri office. The producer in his statement to Midday said, “They raised slogans demanding that the scene be removed, but I told them the Censor Board has cleared the film and I won’t bow to pressure tactics. After protesting for a while, they dispersed. I categorically told them that the scene will not be deleted.”

The film’s director Manish Harishankar says that they have tried to address a sensitive issue in an entertaining way. He was quoted by Times Of India saying, “While the issue is old, there has been a major rise in such cases. According to recent data sourced from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the past three years have seen a 144 percent rise in the number of girls below 15 undergoing abortions. That’s what made me choose this subject for my debut Hindi film. We have conveyed the message with a fulfilled screenplay.” (ALSO READ: Laali Ki Shaadi Mein Laaddoo Deewana: Gurmeet Choudhary opens about breaking away from his erotic image)

The film’s producer also mentions that the film deals with a serious topic but is not preachy at all. He adds, “It is quite challenging to tackle a serious subject with a dose of humour, but Manish has succeeded in conveying the seriousness of the issue in a non-preachy manner.” Laali Ki Shaadi Mein Laaddoo Deewana is slated for release on April 7.
