Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma made a tweet and revealed that he was taken under police custody in Andhra Pradesh’s Vijayawada where he was scheduled to address a press meet for his film Lakshmi’s NTR. He revealed in his tweet that as he landed in the city, he was forced to return to Hyderabad by the Andhra Pradesh police who stopped him from entering the city. The filmmaker questioned the democratic rights of an Indian citizen and wrote that the ‘truth’ is being curtailed.
His posted a video narrating the entire incident and wrote in the caption, “I am In police custody now for the only crime of trying to tell truth ..THERE IS NO DEMOCRACY IN ANDHRA PRADESH.” (sic)
Questioning democracy in the country, RGV made another tweet and wrote, “Sorry to inform that the press meet at 4 pm is cancelled because the police stopped us and have barred my entry into Vijaywada and forcibly sending me back to hyderabad ..Hey @ncbn WHERE IS DEMOCRACY ? WHY IS TRUTH BEING BACK STABBED?” (sic)
He further revealed that his accounts on Facebook and Instagram were also blocked and that’s why he couldn’t communicate the news of the cancellation of the press meet. He wrote, “I can’t communicate because they blocked my insta facebook twitter live” (sic)
In the morning, RGV tweeted that the hotels in Vijayawada have been warned against providing accommodation to the film’s team. His tweet read, “Hotels in Vijaywada are being warned not to accommodate #LakshmisNTR team ..First Hotel Novotel has cancelled us and now Hotel Ilapuram .This after they have been paid in advance ..The people in power should understand that one can misuse power to delay,but no one can stop truth.”
Earlier, TDP approached the high court to stay the release of Ram Gopal Varma’s Lakshmi’s NTR during the time of elections.
