Imtiaz Ali‘s Love Aaj Kal packed a solid day 1 at the Box Office by collecting Rs 12.40 crore. Starring Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan in the lead, the film earned a big total on its opening day and emerged at the big Valentine’s Day grosser at the ticket window. Even after receiving mixed reviews from the critics, Love Aaj Kal played cupid at the Box Office and registered a winning first-day number.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh revealed that the metro cinemas added remarkably to the film’s business. Releasing the latest Box Office figures of Love Aaj Kal on Twitter, he wrote, “#LoveAajKal packs a solid total on Day 1… Got a boost due to #ValentinesDay2020… Metros excellent, contribute to the big total… Tier-2 cities and mass belt ordinary/low… Will it collect in double digits on Day 2 and 3, is the big question… Fri ₹ 12.40 cr. #India biz.” (sic)
The film has already emerged as Kartik’s highest opening-day grosser at the Box Office. Love Aaj Kal is the first film that has opened at a double-digit number for the actor. Earlier, Pati Patni Aur Woh, that hit the screens last year, held the record of being the top first-day grosser for Kartik. The Mudassar Ali directorial had collected Rs 9.10 crore on its opening day. Kartik’s other successful films – Luka Chuppi (2019) earned Rs 8.01 crore, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018) fetched Rs 6.42 crore and Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 (2015) earned Rs 6.80 crore on their first day at the Box Office.
Love Aaj Kal also features debutant Arushi and actor Randeep Hooda in important roles. The film talks about romance across ages through stories which are set in 1990 and 2020.
