Madhur Bhandarkar’s National Award-winning Tabu-starrer ‘Chandni Bar’ is all set to have a sequel and is expected to roll by the year-end. Yes, you read that right. The filmmaker, 17 years after, will be directing the part two of the hit 2001 crime drama, while it will be bankrolled by Shailesh R Singh. Confirming the news, Shailesh, In a statement to Mumbai Mirror, said, “I am really excited to produce Chandni Bar 2 with Madhur as the director once again. I have already acquired the rights to the film and can’t wait to take it on the floors.”
Speaking of Chandni Bar 2, a source close to the development informed the daily, “Madhur has put in a lot of research on the aftermath of the 2005 ban on dance bars and has set the film around the same time and subject. The 2001 crime drama, which starred Tabu and Atul Kulkarni in the lead roles, depicted the gritty life of the Mumbai underworld, including prostitution, dance bars and gun crime. The film also stars Ananya Khare, Rajpal Yadav, Minakshi Sahani and Vishal Thakkar and the film was a critically acclaimed hit, which won four National Film Awards.
