The much-awaited Savitri biopic ‘Mahanati‘, which released on May 9, 2018, is getting applause from all corner. On the box office front, the movie has got off to an amazing start just as expected. Mahanati has collected over $1 million at the overseas box-office, thanks to the positive reviews and word-of-mouth reaction from the audience, which translated into box-office (domestic as well as overseas) success for the makers.
Earlier today, Trade analyst Ramesh Bala took to his micro-blogging site to share the box office collections. He tweeted, “@KeerthyOfficial – @dulQuer – @Samanthaprabhu2 ‘s #Mahanati is having a Fantastic run at the #US Box Office.. Has crossed $1.50 Million already.. 1st Woman-Centric South Movie to do $1.5M+”
Another Trade analyst Taran Adarsh too took to Twitter to share the box-office numbers. Helmed by ‘Yevade Subramanyam’ fame Nag Ashwin, ‘Mahanati’ is a magnum opus period film set in the golden era. With massive set pieces, the film will be unlike anything we’ve explored in Indian cinema. Mahanati, which is a biopic on the veteran Tamil actress Savitri, features Dulquer Salman, Keerthy Suresh, who shot to fame with Tollywood film Nenu Sailaja, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Vijay Deverkonda in the pivotal roles.
The film, which is being bankrolled by C Ashwini Dutt under the banners Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinema, will also be released in Tamil, titled as Nadigayar Thilakam Savitri, which will feature the same cast. Also, the film could be dubbed in Malayalam. According to reports, the makers are in talks with Nivin Pauly to play the male lead for the film. Watch this space for further updates.
