Telugu cinema superstar Mahesh Babu is on a high the past few weeks. His latest film Bharat Ane Nenu, has been doing tremendously well and is touted to cross Rs 200 crore mark worldwide by the second weekend of its release. The political drama is all set to become the biggest ever Tollywood film, next only to SS Rajamouli – Prabhas’ Baahubali franchise. In his earlier interviews, just before the film had hit screen, Mahesh Babu had said how he knew they had a blockbuster in hand.

His belief has just strengthened over the days after Bharath Ane Nenu released in theatres and started minting money across the world. “We knew we had a terrific film on our hands as Siva garu (director Koratala Siva) is a great storyteller. But one never knows which way the wind blows. It’s always the audience which gives the final verdict, and it’s truly overwhelming and a big thank you to all who have unanimously loved our film. It’s a very proud moment for me,” said Mahesh in an interview to IANS.

Talking about his role of Bharat Ram, a young, determined politician who has a vision of a corruption free India, Mahesh Babu said that it is not just a rare role but also a privilege to have got an opportunity to play such a powerful politically pertinent part. “It is very rare for actors to get such powerful films. The characterization of Bharath is my best till date. I will always be grateful to my director Shiva garu for conceiving this part for me.” Interestingly, Prince charming was not confident about playing a politician on screen. He was afraid that he would not be able to do justice to the role since he had no interest in politics and had not played a politician ever before. He didn’t want to sign the film, but Koratala Siva convinced him to take up the challenge.

Now, after essaying the role with such impact and receiving accolades for it, and with a film as successful as Bharat Ane Nenu, Mahesh Babu is just more confident about doing such a film and playing such an important, ‘closer to real life’ role again. If an opportunity for Bharat Ane Nenu sequel (Bharat Ane Nenu 2) presents itself, he will be more than happy to be part of it. Talking about the same he said, “To be honest, we had content to do a five-hour film. But since we had to make it one film, we edited the content down to less than three hours. But I would love to do a sequel, if Siva Sir agrees,” said the star.

For now, the film is already being dubbed in Hindi and getting ready to take the non-Telugu audience by storm. Let’s hope that the Bharat Ane Nenu sequel gets made as well. Meanwhile, Mahesh Babu has signed a film with Rangasthalam director Sukumar and it is going to be a mass entertainer, and release in 2019.
