Meri Pyaari Bindu will hit the theatres this Friday (May 12) and many are looking forward to this film for various reasons. First we will get to see Parineeti Chopra in a full-fledged film after three long years. She was last seen in Kill Dil that also starred Ranveer Singh, Govinda and Ali Zafar. Secondly, she is paired opposite Ayushmann Khurrana for the first time. And when you have a new pairing on the big screen, it automatically garners an extra interest in the film. The trailer of Meri Pyaari Bindu was launched in five parts or chapters as the makers like to call it. And they impressed many. Similarly, the songs that have been coming out since past one month have also become chartbusters. Basically, Parineeti and Ayushmann, who have been promoting Meri Pyaari Bindu left, right and center have managed to create a strong buzz around their film. But will the film manage to live up to the expectations and make good business at the box office? We got in touch with film exhibitor and distributor, Akshaye Rathi, who answered all are questions.
Ask him the amount of money that Meri Pyaari Bindu will make at the box office and he says, “Obviously it’s not a film that will do a Rs 100 crore or even a Rs 50 crore business at the box office. It’s a film that is made on a shoestring budget. If you look at the promos, there is not much that is spent on the movie. Both your actors are very reasonably priced as you are not paying them crores and crores of rupees. The production values are also quite small. So basically Meri Pyaari Bindu is a film that is more about the story. So even if they do a business of let’s just say Rs 15 to 20 crore. I am sure it will do more than that. But if it makes that much, they will make profits.” ALSO READ: Meri Pyaari Bindu is a make or break for Parineeti Chopra’s career, here’s why
What about the occupancy? Will it be able to draw people in the theatres? “It should be fairly okay, because they are planning a very niche release for Meri Pyaari Bindu. The film won’t release in more than 700 to 800 screens. In fact, the films like Sarkar 3 and others that are releasing with Meri Pyaari Bindu this Friday will have a wider release. But if the content is good then I am sure Meri Pyaari Bindu will make somewhere between Rs 8 crore to Rs 9 crore over the first weekend,” adds Akshaye.
How important is this film for Parineeti? Because as we said, she will be seen in a full fledged role after three years, which is a long period of time. “Every film is very important for every actor. Hits and flops happen, sabbatical happens. Come to think of it, Aamir Khan took a break of nearly five years before Mangal Pandey released. And look where he is today. So if someone is talented and he or she has the ability do draw the crowds to the theatres, then sabbaticals don’t matter at all. I would like to believe that Parineeti has the spunk and charisma to be able to draw the audience to the theatres. There is nothing stopping her,” concludes Rathi.
