Actor and model Dia Mirza, who has garnered much praise for her social and environmental work, has hailed former tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi and his wife, actress Lara Dutta, for their stand against sexual harassment in the work place and for not working with people who have been accused of preying on women in the film industry.
Many stories of sexual harassment in the work place have come out, but little action has been taken against the perpetrators by their peers. So when Mahesh and Lara decided that to take a stand by tweeting their decision not to work with those who have been accused, Dia too supported them.
Mahesh had written in a post that everyone seems to be horrified by the #MeToo stories that have emerged, but nobody is daring to come out and say anything. He said that while women around the country have shared their horrific stories, most people in a position of power have chosen to stay silent on the matter. He spoke about how Lara is upset by the stories that have come out since she has friends who have been involved at both ends.
But he said she took a stand against working with a company that was involved with Mukesh Chhabra, who was accused of harassment by a number of women. Check out the post:
Dia, who has done awareness campaigns on prevention of female foeticide, HIV awareness, was quick to support the decision that Mahesh and Lara took, and while praising them for the move, she tweeted that she is proud to call them her friends. Check out her tweet:
In the case involving casting agent Mukesh Chhabra, Fox Star Studios had suspended him on October 19 from his directorial debut Kizie Aur Manny after he was accused of sexual harassment.
