Bollywood actor-filmmaker Aamir Khan has been taking his water conservation project in rural Maharashtra very seriously. Earlier this year, the actor tied up with the Maharashtra government in association with his own Paani Foundation to bring forth unique schemes for drought relief. On February 17, 2016, Aamir Khan had announced the Satyamev Jayate Water Cup in the presence of Maharasthra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The actor began touring the state in April 2016 and visited places like Satara, Beed and many other towns and talukas. Aamir today visited the central Indian city of Amravati (Wathoda village), near Nagpur in Vidarbha.

A video shows Aamir, sporting his new look for Dangal, taking part and helping out in the water conservation initiative in Amravati on April 5. Aamir had earlier roped in actors Sunny Leone, Kangana Ranaut and Riteish Deshmukh to participate in his efforts. Bollywood director Rajkumar Hirani, as also industrialists Kumarmangalam Birla, Ratan Tata and Mukesh Ambani, and cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, among others, are part of the Satyamev Jayate Water Cup that is a contest in water conservation practices. The entire initiative is being handled by Satyajit Bhatkal, the director of Aamir’s TV chat show Satyamev Jayate after which the cup has been named. Bhatkal has been on ground for months now, and Aamir joined him in April.

The Paani Foundation was started by Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao. Bhatkal being the chief executive officer (CEO), Aamir’s ex-wife Reena Dutta is the chief operating officer (COO) of the foundation.
