The Ashwini Iyer Tiwari directorial movie ‘Nil Battey Sannata’ has hit the silver screens today, April 22. The movie stars Swara Bhaskar in the lead role. Ratna Pathak, Pankaj Tripathi and Ria Shukla are also featured in key roles. This movie also marks the debut of the director and we must say it was a well executed film with great story and flawless performances of the lead stars.

‘Nil Battey Sannata’ is a simple movie with a great story. It will give you a realistic feeling that actually happens in real life too. Swara Bhaskar plays the character Chanda – a single mother who is striving hard for her daughter’s better future. Because she could not complete her studies, she could not fulfill her dreams. Chanda works as a maid in Ratna Pathak’s house also works in shoes and a small spice factory. She does this multi-tasking in order to save money for her daughter’s education. On one side is this hardworking mother and on the other side is Apeksha a.k.a. Appu (Ria Shukla) who is not at all interested in studying. The relation of this mother-daughter duo is something that you got to watch for. Very rare case you will see such unusual bond. Though there is poverty, there is also some hope, some dreams for this little family that will keep you hooked till the end. So there is Apeksha who doesn’t have any hopes to become better in life (professionally). She is a bit stubborn child who hates studying especially the subject Mathematics and her ambitions will actually leave you stunned. When Chanda asks her Appu what she intends to become in life she replies – an engineer’s child becomes engineer, a doctor’s child becomes doctor and a maid’s child a maid. This upsets the mother but what Ria had to add was epic. Swara Bhaskar’s ray of hope is her didi (Ratna Pathak), where she works as a maid. Her didi’s suggestion and emotional support keeps Chanda motivated. There is another interesting character in this film – Mr. Shrivastav (Pankaj Tripathi) who happens to be Apeksha’s school principal and maths professor. His act and method of teaching will make you laugh crazily. Moreover, Apeksha’s bond with the professor is a visual treat.

There is so much of innocence in this film. This heart-warming film will show you till what extent a mother could go to make her daughter better in academics and show a better future. There are also instances in the film where the relation of this wonderful mother-daughter duo suffers and poverty isn’t the reason. Have you seen how children who don’t have parents make efforts to study by working after school hours? Have you seen a mother going to school, studying with daughter and competing with her to make her child’s future bright? This movie will show you how dreams can come true. There are fights between mother and daughter. There are situations when daughter decides to follow wrong path because of sheer laziness, anger, jealousy and the thought that even she will turn up a maid. ‘Nil Battey Sannata’ celebrates the bond of mother and daughter. The locations, situations, flawless performance, etc. all such simple things make this film beautiful. Swara Bhaskar and Ria Shukla’s brilliant performance will bring a smile on your face! This 15-year-old girl with her mother shows the grey side of life in the most beautiful way.
