We still can’t come to terms with Sridevi‘s untimely death. A part of us still hopes that we wake up to know that this was all but a bad dream and that the iconic actress is very much alive. But, alas that can never happen. Arjun Kapoor and Boney Kapoor are now on their way back with the mortal remains of the late actress. The funeral and the last rights of the late actress are slated to take place tomorrow and a sea of the actress’ fans and friends/colleagues from the film fraternity are expected to be present at Pawan Hans crematorium to bid her farewell. Not only was she a great actress, who had over 300 films to her credit, but also an avid painter. Yes, you read just right.
The actress was extremely passionate about painting. The actor was expected to auction some of her paintings for charity in Dubai, which ironically turned out to be the place she breathed her last. According to art dealers in Dubai, among her most brilliant and sought-after works, is a portrait of Sonam Kapoor, which the actress created soon after the release of her debut film, Saawariya, in 2007. Last month, Midday had reported that the starting price for the painting was to be kept at Rs 10 lakh.
A source close to the actress had told the leading tabloid, “Sridevi has been painting for many years. It’s her favourite pastime. In 2010, an international art house approached her to auction her work. But she didn’t agree. Since the event in Dubai is for a noble cause, it drew her. Sonam has a massive fan following in Dubai and her popularity has grown in the Middle East after her Project Runway outing with Elli Saab. The bidders are hoping that the painting will sell at a high price.” Another painting done by the actress, is that of the late pop star, Michael Jackson, whose bidding was expected to start at Rs 8 Lakh. Well, it’s truly heartbreaking to see a talented artiste such as Sridevi leave us so soon. All we can do now is celebrate the legacy she leaves behind. We’ll indeed miss her a lot.
