A mere few days away from the much awaited 89th Academy Awards, we all are patiently waiting for the announcement of our favourite nominee to grab the golden statuette. The enthusiasm and the anticipation that the Oscar’s have built worldwide is fascinating with the Oscar predictions and forecasts brimming the worldwide web at every hour. This year Oscar’s holds a nail biting competition with a massive array of some of the greatest cinema of today from every corner of the world. From fictions to biopics and even adaptations and remakes, the Oscar’s indeed has a slice of everything and every kind of cinema this year.

For the past few years, filmmakers have been following a trend of adapting books, plays, life stories, etc. into motion pictures. Some well-deserved adaptations have also made it to the nominations of the OSCAR 2017.

Let’s take a look at some of the Oscar nominated book adaptation movies for the 89th Academy Awards.

Nominated for the Best Picture category, Lion featuring Indian Actor Dev Patel is an adaptation of the book ‘A Long Way Home’. The Movie is a poignant portrayal of the story with an outstanding performance by Dev already winning many awards in ceremonies across the globe along with being nominated for the Best actor in a supporting Role in the 89TH Academy Awards. 2. Arrival


 Adapted from the book ‘Story of Your Life’, the movie is a sci fi fiction short story of human communication with the alien world. The story is a thoughtful exploration of determinism and free will, and it won a Nebula Award for Best Novella in 2000. (ALSO READ: Whoa! 3. Hidden Figures


The film Hidden Figures is the adaptation of the book with the same name that revolves around a female African- American Mathematician at NASA penning down a story of their of one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit. The movie and the book both are based on a true story with a tinge of fictional touch in both.

With securing nominations for Best Actress for the magnificent performances by Isabella Huppert, the psychological thriller based on the novel Oh… by Philippe Djian. The haunting story about fear, anxiety and assault brings out the human psychology in the most intriguing manner.

5.  My Life as  a Zucchini


A surprising nomination, is the adaptation of My Life as a Zucchini which made it to the Nomination of Animated Feature Film. The movie is a second adaptation of the French novel Autobiographie d’une Courgette. The first was a live-action television film that garnered huge success and was aired in France. The film was made in French which was then dubbed in English Language as well.

6. Nocturnal Animals


An adaptation of Tony & Susan is a powerful powerfully strange story with a simple yet complicated plot. Its main theme, at first sight, is revenge, but in the end, takes us on a curious ride of understanding how stories can mess our heads into thinking and becoming something that we have never dreamt of.
