While Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone starrer has won 16 nominations, Australia Drama LION starring India’s Sunny Pawar, Dev Patel, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Tanishta Chatterjee have 6 nominations. While La La Land is one of the strongest contender in the Best Film category at the Oscars 2017, Moonlight is a hot favourite with many.
The film directed by Barry Jenkins based on the play In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue, got six nomination at the 74th Golden Globe Awards and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Drama. Actor Ali Fazal, who has been following Oscars since many years, spoke to India.com about his Oscar favourites this year. The actor said that he loved La La Land but when it comes to the Best Film category at the Oscars 2017, he was rooting for Moonlight.
The film, starring Trevante Rhodes, André Holland, Janelle Monáe, Ashton Sanders, Naomie Harris, and Mahershala Ali in pivotal role, is a tough competition to La La Land. Talking about the best actor and actress category, Ali revealed that Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone’s beautiful chemistry in the musical impressed him and he was hoping that the two stars will take home the Golden Statues post the award ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. Viola Davis from Fences has his vote in the Best Supporting Actress category and India’s Dev Patel is his pick for the Best Supporting Actor category for his role in LION. Ali is extremely excited that LION, which has Indian actors has made it to not just one but six categories at the 89th Academy Awards nominations list and was hoping that the film wins a few! “I feel LION deserves to win a few awards at Oscasr 2017. Apart from just the fact that Indian are starring in the film, it is a beautifully told story with honest performances and no one can ever take that away from them all.” Ali specially mentioned the little star, young Saroo Sunny Pawar in the film LION. “Sunny is the youngest Indian I believe to be out there. The actor is currently gearing up for the American release of one of his international collaboration, For Here Or To Go. The film was shot two years back and has Ali essaying the lead role set against the backdrop of 2008 recession and a series of comedy events that show the harsh reality of immigration issues faced by thousands of people in the US.

The 89th Academy Awards 2017 will take place at the Dolby Theatre, Hollywood, California on the 26th February 2017 and can be watched live in India on Star Movies, Star Movies HD and Star Movies Select HD at 05:30 am on the 27th of February and repeat at 08:30pm.
