Ever since TV serial Pehredaar Piya Ki premiered on Indian television, it has come under intense scrutiny for its controversial subject, which is that of a 10-year-old boy marrying an adult woman. The show has been subjected to immense criticism for not just the age gap between the leads but also for exalting stalking and sexualising a child. The show has been attracting furious comments from commoners and celebrities equal, for coming up with a story line like that. However, despite the trolling, viewers have been hooked on to the show for the past one week.
Why do we say that, you ask? Well, the show has managed to open on a good note, with a TRP rating of 1.1 in the first week. Pehredaar Piya Ki is a show about 18-year old Diya (played by Tejasswi Prakash) becoming the “protector” of who marries 10-year old Ratan Singh (played by Affan Khan) in order to protect him. In the coming days the viewers will be in for a twist as Diya will be seem facing criticism from Ratan’s family for marrying him. However, the way she will keep her head high and continue to safeguard Ratan will make for an interesting watch. Meanwhile, positive or negative publicity notwithstanding, the show is definitely performing well on the TRP charts. Written by Sumeet Mittal who has also penned the scripts of successful shows like Punah Vivaah and Diya Aur Baati Hum, the show features Tejasswi (Diya), Affan (Ratan Singh), Suyyash Rai (Abhay), Parmeet Sethi (Maan Singh), Kishori Sahanay (Padma Singh) in pivotal roles.
