After the heist film, Baadshaho, which was set against the background of India’s Emergency period, Ajay Devgn and Ileana D’Cruz are back with Raid. Set against the backdrop of the 1980s, the plot of Raid is based on a famous income tax raid that took place in Uttar Pradesh. While Devgn has played a uniformed torchbearer on screen several times, courtesy films like Zameer, Singham series, Sunday, Gangaajal, LOC Kargil, Major Saab and the list goes on, this will be the first time we will see him Amay Patnaik- Deputy Commisioner of Income Tax, Lucknow, but without a uniform. Helmed by Raj Kumar Gupta, who is known for making content-driven films with a bit of realism to it such as Aamir and No One Killed Jessica, Raid seems to follow the same kind of genre.
The film that went on floors in September last year is out with its trailer already and boy are we impressed and intrigued seeing it! Devgn as the no nonsense income tax officer is absolutely flawless, and so is Saurabh Shukla as the corrupt politician. Seeing the trailer we can safely deduce that Kumar couldn’t have found a better actor to play the part of the straightforward, badass and fearless IT officer than Devgn. Besides, the Baadshaho co-stars’ impeccable chemistry in Raid is a bonus for the audiences, as highlighted in the 2 minute 46 second long trailer. We have seen Ileana do so many roles from the 1970s and the 1950s, nailing the look from the respective periods and this time to say that she looks absolutely gorgeous as a lady from the ’80s won’t be an understatement. Take a look at the trailer below, in case you haven’t. (ALSO READ : LEAKED! Fan Frenzy Over Ajay Devgn And Ileana D’cruz On The Sets Of Raid (Watch Video))
In an interview with Indian Express, filmmaker Gupta had said, “RAID is a story that needs to be told on the big screen. I am looking forward to my collaboration with Ajay sir, Bhushanji, Kumarji and Abhishek on this film.” The film has been bankrolled by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak. Speaking about the film, Bhushan Kumar and Abhishek Pathak had mentioned during an interview ahead of the film going on floors that they were excited to produce a content driven film such as Raid. “As producers, we are always on the lookout for exciting material and it all starts there and with RAID it is a continuation of our thought-process of backing films with content like Special Chabbis and Drishyam which we produced and Rustom which we acquired for all India distribution.” The film is slated for release on March 16, 2018.
