Rajkummar Rao who was last seen in Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga recently revealed that he was supposed to star opposite Deepika Padukone in Chhapaak but could not due to ‘messed up’ dates.

In a recent chat show, the actor revealed the same and said, “I didn’t turn it down. Of course not! I loved that script but my dates were so messed up. I’m so looking forward to that film. I kept telling Meghna and Deepika that it’s my loss”.

Earlier, director Meghna Gulzar talked about Deepika’s look and said, “You won’t be seeing Deepika, you know. You will be seeing a disfigured Deepika. There is an uncanny similarity between the survivor and Deepika.” The filmmaker also wrote on Deepika’s website, “My film was based on acid violence. Of a woman who epitomized immense courage and strength, in the face of crippling adversity.” She also shared that Deepika often jokes around that she agreed to do the film “because of a scene where she gets to eat kairi (raw mangoes) with salt and red chilli powder”.

Chhapaak is based on the story of an acid-attack survivor, Laxmi, who was attacked at the age of 16 by a 32-year-old man who stalked her and then threw acid at her after she rejected his advances.

Earlier, Laxmi reacted to Deepika’s first look from the film and said, “I was happy to see Deepika’s first look from the film. I was feeling good that a celebrity has come in that look.” Laxmi further added, “A lot of make-up artistes changed a natural face to acid distorted face. And I felt, see, they are finding beauty in an acid-burnt face”.

Directed by Meghna Gulzar, Chhapaak is slated to release on January 10, 2020. Chhapaak will be clashing with Ajay Devgn starrer Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior at the Box Office.
