Ranveer Singh, who will soon be seen in Yash Raj Singh’s Befikre has also been in news for a different, albeit a wrong reason. He has been getting a lot of backlash for his Jack and Jones advertisement featuring him as a working professional who is seen carrying a woman on his shoulder with a tagline that says, ‘Take your work home.’ This sexist advertisement was condemned by masses including celebrities like the south actor Sidharth. Ranveer, who has become image conscious lately, has reacted and apologized profusely for his mistake.

He spoke to a leading news channel and told, “I’m sorry this happened. We got it wrong on billboards. Rectified mistake, the ad was withdrawn.” Whoa! now Ranveer seems clearly upset over his negative publicity especially before the release of his film Befikre. Indian Express reported that Singh is very upset with this particular clothing brand and a source close to the actor told the paper, “Ranveer never ever thought endorsing a clothing brand would bring him disrepute. He is someone who is extremely image conscious and has deep respect for women. He is hurt that the tagline was written by those who conceptualised the ad and that it went terribly wrong. He has told the brand that it shouldn’t have happened and their writers should have been more careful with their words.” Well, the billboard advertisement clearly glorified masculinity and that did not go down well with either masses nor the Padmavati star.

Now he has finally reacted and has apologised to his fans. Well, this reminds us of a recent time when Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was called out for a feudal ad for a jewellery brand where the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil actress was walking decked up in jewels while a young slave was following her, carrying an umbrella over her head. She had argued then that though she shot for the particular ad, she was unaware of the concept. A creative agency, therefore, was blamed for the advertisement. Looks like Ranveer too faced a similar dilemma.

All said and done, Ranveer is really hot in the advertising sector and has amazing brand equity. He would have never imagined though that these things back fire too and how! All we wish is that our Bollywood stars are more careful and aware of the brands they are endorsing and the concept that is at work for the particular ad they are the face of.
