Kangana Ranaut is known for working in some of the best projects like Queen, Tanu Weds Manu and Fashion. She has won the hearts of the audience just with her acting talents and we cannot deny that she is one the best actresses in the current era. Now this versatile actor is all set to work in Vishal Bhardwaj’s big flick ‘Rangoon’ with Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor in the lead. The director did a lot of research to make Kangana’s character shine on the silver screen. He surfed through the main storming ladies from along the era of 40s to make Kangana look believable for his drama. Kangana’s performance will surely add up after all this prep!
Actress Kangana Ranaut is set to play Jaanbaaz Miss Julia, a 1940s action diva, in ‘Rangoon’ and her first look from the Vishal Bhardwaj-directed film is out. The poster of the-film-within-the-film shows Kangana in black outfit wielding a whip and sporting a Marilyn Monroe- like haircut, with a white stallion neighing close by.
The vintage movie poster is that of a Navroz Talkies production, titled ‘Toofan Ki Beti,’ which will remind the audience of Mary Ann Evans aka Fearless Nadia, a stunt queen of the 30s.
Set against the Second World War, the Casablanca-like love triangle also stars Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor. Julia is not Fearless Nadia but is a’40s diva in her own right who came into films via theatre and as was the convention at the time, went to the front to entertain soldiers fighting the Second World War. “That’s where Julia, who is in love with a producer, played by Saif, meets Shahid’s character and loses her heart again, bringing grit, glamour and romance into this intense war-drama,” a source close to the production unit said.
Described as ‘Moulin Rouge’ meets ‘Saving Private Ryan,’ ‘Rangoon’ is Bhardwaj’s dream project which he had been working on since past seven years. Sajid Nadiadwala is producing the film scheduled to release in February next year. (ALSO READ: Kangana Ranaut was asked about her 15 crore fee demand and here’s how she responded!)
As we told you just now, Vishal gave his time researching upon the 12 women who did stunt scenes during the era of 1930s and 1940s. As reported in Pinkvilla, Vishal said, ” The wave of the female heroism of 1930 and 1940 was a unique phenomenon. Very little of this wave is captured in any of our recent films or literature. We had a team that extensively researched this period since the narrative of Rangoon is set in this era and in this milieu.”
Now that we know that Kangana is an ace actress who donnes her characters too well on her, we can bet that this role will also be turned into gold by her!
