New Delhi, April 7: The Jodhpur Sessions Court on Saturday granted bail to Bollywood actor Salman Khan in 1998 blackbuck poaching case. However, it was expected that Khan might have to spend a few more days in jail as the District and Sessions Judge, Ravindra Joshi, who was supposed to hear actor’s bail plea at 10:30 AM today has been transferred by the Rajasthan High Court on Friday night.
The actor who has been lodged in Ward number 2 at Jodhpur Central Jail as kaidi number 106, had on Thursday appealed for a bail, soon after he was sentenced to five years in jail, with a penalty of Rs 10,000 in the 20-year-old case.
Yesterday, the Session Court had reserved its order on Salman’s bail plea till Saturday. His case was presented in the sessions court by senior advocate Mahesh Bora, who came with a 51-page bail application. He had reportedly said that the witnesses’ statement should not be trusted in the case as they raise a benefit of doubt and questioned why only Salman had been convicted out of all co-accused.
Earleir on Thursday, Salman was taken to the Jodhpur Central Jail amid tight security. However the other accused – Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre and Neelam – were acquitted in the case filed in October 1998.
