In what may come as a huge relief to all Salman Khan fans, the Supreme Court stayed all criminal proceedings against the superstar in cases lodged in several courts in the country for allegedly passing derogatory comments against the ‘Valmiki’ community during the promotions of the film, Tiger Zinda Hai. A senior counsel, NK Kaul, representing the actor, put forth the plea of staying all proceedings against Salman, which a bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra considered. In its judgement, the Court said no First Investigation Reports (FIRs) can be filed against the 52-year-old superstar any more in court till further notice, in relation with the particular case. Kaul has been reportedly asked by the Court to provide the details of the cases against Salman. The Supreme Court was informed that Salman Khan had numerous criminal cases lodged against him in Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Mumbai. The case is expected to come up again on July 23 this year.
For the uninitiated, Salman had reportedly passed some derogatory comments against the Valmiki community during the promotions of action flick, Tiger Zinda Hai, which released in December last year. Consequently, numerous cases were lodged against him under the provisions of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. On April 21, Mumbai court declined a bailable arrest warrant against the star, in the case of the 2002 hit and run case, for which the Maharashtra government’s appeal against his absolution is pending before the Supreme Court. During the initial days of this month, the Court had issued the warrant against the actor for not following the Court’s orders. Salman had appeared before the Additional Sessions Judge MG Deshpande and had got done with all the formalities of supplying the surety, following which the court cancelled the warrant.
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Salman is busy shooting for his upcoming film, Race 3, helmed by Remo D’Souza, that also stars Jacqueline Fernandez, Daisy Shah, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol and Saqib Saleem in pivotal roles.
