Salman Khan and his gang of boys and girls met the media at the trailer launch of their Eid June 15 release Race 3. There were a lot of questions, the answers to which were not always easy. But Salman, who has been able to exercise better control over his emotions since the past few years, chose to be sarcastic on the ones that hurt him or which he found awkward. Race 3 is an action thriller and directed by Remo D’Souza, however, if you may recall, the choreographer-turned-director was supposed to make an emotional father-daughter dance film with Salman as the lead.
However, that film got put on the back-burner and soon we heard about Remo coming on board Race 3 as the director. So today at the Race 3 launch, one question that Salman was asked was about this decision of shelving the emotional drama and going ahead with an actioner instead. He was asked if the failure of his last Eid release – Tubelight with Kabir Khan – was the reason he was forced to play safe and stick to his action hero image.
The question was met with a sarcastic answer by Salman, who said, “Yeah, Tubelight did very badly, but it still did much better than rest of the films, which I am really happy about. I am privileged that a Rs 100 crore film was considered a flop.” He also said about how he had to return a lot of money to distributors and still had enough money left to make Race 3. The action film is co-produced by TIPS’ Ramesh Taurani and Salman’s SKP.
The actor also compared Race 3, the third franchise in the Race series, to the kind of films Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra used to do. On talking about how he made up his mind to come on board the project, Salman said, “I heard the script two years ago. Then it was improved upon and Ramesh Taurani wanted me to listen to it again. It was a difficult genre for me to do, I suggested a few changes. I knew the genre of the film but I did not know where I will fit in the genre. Once it was re-worked I realized that it is actually a fun film to do.”
The film brings together an ensemble cast comprising Anil Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez, Daisy Shah, Saqib Salim, Bobby Deol among others and is set to release in 3D format along with 2D.
