After his controversial rape remark, Bollywood actor Salman Khan may be dropped as the Rio Olympics 2016 goodwill ambassador. The Indian Olympics Association (IOA) has reportedly taken objection to the actor’s casual remark. The country has expressed its ire on social media over Salman’s remark comparing his physical discomfort while shooting for a wrestling scene to that of a woman who has been raped.

Salman had made the ‘raped woman’ remark during media interviews for his next release, Sultan. “While shooting during those six hours, there was so much of lifting and thrusting that it was unbelievable. If I was lifting a 120kg person and dropping him down, I had to do it 10 times. I did it 10 times from five different angles. So, six-and-half or seven hours. Either, I was picking him and throwing him or else, he was picking me up and throwing me. So it was like the most difficult thing. When I used to walk out of the ring, I used to feel actually like a raped woman walking out,” he said, which even made some journalists laugh. (ALSO READ: Salman Khan rape remark audio clip: Listen to the exact quote of the Sultan star on feeling like a ‘raped woman’ – Video)

Now, the IOA has taken serious note of Salman’s statement on rape. As it is, not many people were happy that he was appointed the goodwill ambassador although he has nothing to do with sports.

As reported by India Today, Rakesh Gupta, IOA joint secretary and India’s chef-de-mission, said about Salman to the media, “His comments as goodwill ambassador would send a wrong message to all the sportspersons in the country. Salman Khan should not have used this analogy to describe his shooting schedule. He should have given a different answer or cited some other example. This way he has hurt the image of Indian sports. This statement will have an adverse effect with the Rio Olympics fast approaching. He should immediately apologise for his remark.”

While Salman has left for Spain for the 2016 IIFA Awards, Bollywoood and his fans are still talking about his rape remark. His father Salim Khan and brother Arbaaz Khan defended him and apologised on his behalf, while actress Pooja Bedi took Salman’s side. Actress Kangana Ranaut also criticised Salman’s remark but “collectively” said sorry on his behalf!

Singer Sona Mohapatra and actress Renuka Shahane have lashed out at Salman for the rape remark, with Sona even receiving rape threats for her anti-Salman statement. It remains to be seen if Salman is removed as the goodwill ambassador of Rio Olympics 2016 or not.
