And, we were waiting with bated breath as the first trailer of Sallu Bhai’s latest upcoming movie Sultan was launched. Starring Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles, Sultan is the story of a Haryanvi wrestler and his dreams to achieve fame and make it big. Contrary to popular notion, Sultan is not based on any one wrestler or one fighter but the character of Sultan, played by Salman is a completely fictional character. The most interesting part in the movie is Anushka Sharma who also plays a wrestler and Salman’s love interest in the movie. Salman Khan has buffed up quite a bit for his role in the movie.

But then, back to the trailer. 4. The wrestling sequences by Bhai aren’t exactly thrilling or will make you wait with bated breath. There’s really nothing innovative that is brought to the table here. Instead, each of the sequences in the trailer remind us of some scene from a movie gone by. From Mary Kom to Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, there’s traces of been there, seen that throughout the trailer!
So then, which of the scenes did we find lacking? Well, take a look and decide!
Remember that unmemorable movie Brother starring Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra? The opening sequence reminds us of the boxing ring scene from that movie. And pretty much many Bollywood movies based on boxing or wrestling!

The Thappad se dar nahi lagta pyaar se lagta hai – cult dialogue is memorable. But the way Salman proposes to Anushka in the movie – so Dabangg style! Though there’s none of that intensity, there’s the same feeling. And no, it does not make us go awww.
3. Mary Kom
The way Mary Kom fought against her adversary in the ring, all for some money an did not give up – Anushka Sharma reminds us of just her as she takes on the male wrestler in battle.

4. Chak De India
The pain Shah Rukh felt and emoted on screen was brilliant. But Salman’s Sultan while, reminding us of that, doesn’t bring out any new emotion. It doesn’t even create mystery as to why was the pain there and what exactly happened?
Salman on the scooter? So, so, so SRK from Swades!

Replace the tyres with a bull-dozer and what do you get? Yes, Sultan!
