There seems to be no end to the success of Thalapathy Vijay’s latest movie Sarkar at the box office. In the latest report, Sarkar is said to have remained in the number one spot at the Chennai box office with a total collection of Rs 14.94 crore by the end of its third weekend. The gross collections of the movie on its first day had been reported to be Rs 75 crore and by the second day Rs 100 crore.
Sarkar, which was released on November 6 and was directed by AR Murugadoss, is said to have made Rs 225.3 crore (US$31 million) at the worldwide box office in just 14 days. It was released in over 3000 screens around the world, and it managed to retain 60 per cent of the screens from the opening week on its second weekend too.
In its third week, Sarkar earned Rs 72.28 lakh from 231 shows at the Chennai box office, and during the weekdays it collected Rs 38.18 lakh from 280 shows.
However, the movie is said to have witnessed a significant drop when it comes to the entire south India, with industry experts saying it earned Rs 153.3 crore at the domestic box office. Elsewhere, like in the US, Malaysia, Australia, UAE and a few other countries with high Tamil population, the movie has performed well.
While the total collection of Sarkar stands at Rs 14.94 crore at the end of the third weekend, it remains to be seen if it will stay on top of the charts, as this weekend will see the release of Rajinikanth’s 2.0. The science fiction action movie will be hitting a good number of screens on November 29, 2018.
