Shah Rukh Khan became the fourth recipient of the Yash Chopra Award and was felicitated yesterday by the gorgeous, ever green Rekha. Shah Rukh, who gave YRF its biggest hit with Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, became a poster boy of the production house. Yash Raj Chopra’son Aditya Chopra is instrumental in creating the lover boy image of SRK with his signature pose, style at al. So we were not surprised that he was chosen this year. Before him, Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha and Lata Mangeshkar were bestowed with this honour. Shah Rukh Khan looked dapper in a three-piece suit and profusely thanked team YRF for making him what he is today, King Khan!
In his emotional speech, he said, “This is one of the most important evenings of my life. I am very emotional. Yash Chopra has single-handedly created my career. It is a strange circle that I am receiving an award, which honours him and is in his memory, and I am who I am because of what Yash Chopra made me do.”
He added that the has got this award only due to his personal relationship with the Chopras. He said, “I am extremely undeserving (for the award) but I am happy that the jury considered me for it. The reason for this is genuinely a gracious, wonderful and fantastic feeling that the whole family has given me over the years. This can be the only reason for this. It can’t be my talent. So, it feels really special to receive this award. It is very personal. I can’t express how emotional it is for me. It is a personal moment for me, having worked with him for 20 years, right from when I started and then to lose him as we walked along the path of filmmaking… it is emotional for me.”
Apart from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Shah Rukh has worked in these YRF films: Darr, Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Veer-Zara and Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
