In the wake of India’s #MeToo movement, many renowned faces have been accused of harassment, sexual misconduct, and even rape. Music composer, Anu Malik, who was seen judging the TV reality show, Indian Idol 10, was asked to step down from his position following sexual misconduct allegations against him by singers Sona Mohapatra and Shweta Pandit.

In an interview to Pinkvilla, Shweta lauded Sony TV and the makers of Indian Idol 10 for supporting #Metoo. She said, “If this is true, then I applaud Sony TV and the makers of Indian Idol to support Me too. India needs a change in their mindset and respect work ethics and women at work. Don’t Engage and supporting survivors is the beginning of these changes. We have a lot more to do.”

Earlier, in a statement, the official spokesperson of Sony TV said, “Anu Mallik is no longer a part of the Indian Idol jury panel. The show will continue its planned schedule and we will invite some of the biggest names in Indian music as guests to join Vishal and Neha to judge the extraordinary talent of Indian Idol season 10.”

The singer has been judging the show for many years.

After Shweta and Sona, two more women came out and shared their horrific encounter with the composer. One of the victims, whose identity has not been revealed, talked to Mid-Day and said that she met Malik in 1990 at Mehboob Studios where he rubbed himself against her and apologised.

Another victim stated that Anu had asked her to meet at his place wearing a chiffon saree adding that just when she was about to leave, he tried to hug her.

After Tanushree Dutta accused veteran actor Nana Patekar of sexual harassment, on the sets of Horn Ok Pleassss in 2008, many women from the industry and outside have come forward with their #MeToo Stories.
