It would be only natural that Simran director Hansal Mehta isn’t in much of a party mood since his much talked of film has been receiving a lukewarm response at the box office. Simran’s first impressions and trailer suggested we are in for another Queen-esque performance by Kangana Ranaut, the international locales suggested a story on similar lines and a new iconic character. But much to the dismay of Hansal Mehta, Simran is no Queen. And it doesn’t seem like it will earn like it either.
Once in a previous interview, the director had earlier candidly opened up about his tendencies, “Rejection really scares me and it’s always been like that.” And he has seemingly lived up to his candid words. The director has deleted his Twitter handle perhaps due to the negative reactions of the audience. In four days post release, the film saw a disappointing opening day (Rs 2.77 cr), and a letdown of a first weekday (Rs 1.41 cr), bagging a total of Rs 12.06 cr.
The film, that is made on a budget of Rs 30 crores got embroiled in more controversy than they would’ve liked, with the actor, writer, and the director, all at a crossroads against each other. Recently there were reports of text messages leaked between the three which reveal how they fell out, and where Kangana allegedly calls Hansal Mehta a ‘clueless’ and ‘spineless’ director. What are your thoughts on this? We’d love to know about it in the comment section below.
