So far, this year has been nothing short of exceptional for birthday girl Sonam Kapoor who celebrates her birthday today (June 9). A national award for her movie Neeraja, a newly launched design label, Rheason, with her sister Rhea Kapoor and another iconic year at the Cannes Film Festival 2017 where her sartorial tastes were greatly appreciated. And that’s not it. She has even been featured as the cover girl of Vogue Style List 2017 June issue, where she is seen donning some beautiful designs by the likes of French designer Emanuel Ungaro, Red Valentino, Elie Saab, and so on.
Have to give it to her. Whether it’s a traditional Indian ensemble, high-end international couture or even a casual airport look, Sonam carries them off with absolute grace and finesse. We couldn’t agree more with fashion director, Vogue India, Anaita Shroff Adajania, who in a recent interview with a leading media portal said, “Sonam Kapoor is the ultimate style chameleon. She never locks herself in a box. She is out there trying everything new and setting the bar high.” Perhaps that’s why as the stylish diva turns a year older today, we bring to you 10 looks from this year, which we believe, only she could have carried off.
Sonam glittered in this Elie Saab gold gown which she accessorised with diamond earrings from Chopard. Styled by her sister, Rhea Kapoor , Sonam dazzled on the red carpet at the Cannes festival in this breathtaking ensemble.
Another one from the Cannes 2017 diaries, this one has the stylish diva wear a beautiful embellished chiffon dress designed by Elie Saab Haute Couture, once again. Styled by Rhea Kapoor, Sonam accessorised her ensemble with custom-made Kalyan Jewellery. Isn’t she looking gorgeous?
This one again has Sonam Kapoor pulling up her fashion game at Cannes this year. The bell sleeved red cover-up teamed with the mustard toned flared pantsuit by Anamika Khanna, is giving Sonam an out-and-out boho chic look. This goes to prove that only Sonam can pull off an outfit that spells drama, thanks to the red bandanna and those bell sleeves in the kaftan!
Moving over to the Filmfare awards, where this Bollywood fashion icon made heads turn with the stunning white Elie Saab gown. Wearing this beautiful gown from the haute couture’s Fall collection 2016, Sonam’s gorgeous attire was well complemented by her marsala lip colour and glitzy beige clutch.
Wearing a Ralph and Russo look from the designer duo’s Fall 2016 collection, the fashionista made quite a statement at a gala hosted in Geneva in her honour of becoming the brand ambassador for a luxury Swiss watch brand. Although a print on print is never recommended, the actress pulls off the floor-length verdure coat, albeit not required, quite effortlessly.
We are absolutely in awe with this outfit’s ingenuity. Kudos to Masaba Gupta for that. But, have to give Sonam the due credit for turning the quirkiness of this attire a notch higher, by teaming it up with a brown belt. It’s not every day that one thinks of reusing an old pair of jeans and turning it into a sari. But if a designer like Masaba Gupta were to ally with a stylist like Rhea Kapoor to experiment it on a muse like Sonam, the result would be nothing short of resplendent, as can be seen in the picture above.
This time Sonam kept it simple, without compromising on the style quotient. Designed by Caroline Hayden, the actress looked gorgeous in a cream satin halter neck gown that accentuated her flawless figure, making her look classy and gorgeous at the Masala Awards in Dubai.
Going the traditional way, the actress looked every bit of a regal beauty in this gorgeous green saree designed by Anamika Khanna. Teamed with heavy jewellery and gajra around her neatly tied bun, the actress looked elegant, to say the least.
Seeing Sonam don this Payal Khandwala outfit—green kurta, white separates and a blue jacket, we can’t seem to get enough of her. With perfectly straightened hair and makeup that doesn’t stand out, not to forget the understated jewellery, the actress looks artsy, elegant, graceful and chic all at once.
Last but not the least, her airport looks. Yes Sonam wore this polo neck black top, paired with striped separates: coat and cullotes and black laced up shoes as an airport look. Ordinarily there is nothing wrong with this look. Sonam looks classy and stylish donning this ensemble. However, we feel it’s way too edgy for an airport look, which is more often than not preferred to be casual. But trust Sonam to carry off a formal look like this casually. Only she could do something like that with unabashed style!
Well, we would be looking forward to see this beauty continue in her endeavour to push the style quotient higher even by her own set standards. Until then, India.com wishes Sonam Kapoor a very Happy Birthday and hope that the remaining of the year brings her as much luck as it’s brought her so far!
