Bollywood newcomer Sooraj Pancholi has finally opened up about his late girlfriend, actress Jiah Khan, who committed suicide two years ago. The 26-year-old Jiah aka Nafisa Khan had been dating Sooraj for a while, and the two had had a tiff. Days after the altercation, allegedly due to Jiah’s obsessive nature, she committed suicide. Jiah’s mother Rabia Khan accused Sooraj of being responsible for her daughter’s drastic step, and filed a police complaint.
As a result, Sooraj had to spend a few days in jail on the charge of abetting Jiah’s suicide. But he was granted bail soon. Sooraj was then whisked away by superstar Salman Khan, who was launching him in his home production, Hero. The movie, a remake of Subhash Ghai’s original starring Jackie Shroff, will be out soon and stars Sunil Shetty’s daughter Athiya Shetty opposite Sooraj.
It seems in preparation for his debut, apart from the movie’s promotion, Sooraj has decided to tell-all about his girlfriend. “I miss her every day of my life!” MTV India reports Sooraj as saying. “I am missing her while I am sitting with you right now. If I loved a person so much I would miss her. She was five years elder to me. She was more mature than me. I was 21-year-old then and she was 26. She knew more about the industry than me.”
Sooraj is also not angry at Rabia, saying she as a mother has all the right to react the way she did. “I don’t know if she is against me. If she feels there is some foul play in this case then she has all the right to do verification,” he said.
Speaking about the tragic incident, Sooraj told in an exclusive interview to The Indian Express, “It was in nobody’s control. People didn’t realise that I had lost someone. I lost my girlfriend who I was seeing for the past few months and I was really upset.” “People ask me what have I learnt from it. I don’t think of it as a lesson because I have not committed any mistake. There is nothing to learn from it. It was in nobody’s control and perhaps was meant to happen,” he added.
Sooraj told the media, “Dekho main kabhi saamne se nahi bolunga ki maine galti nahi ki hai, ki maine galti ki hai ya jo bhi hai. (I’m not going to come forward and say I’ve not made a mistake, or I’ve made a mistake, or whatver.)
He added, “Nafisa (Jiah) will always remain in my mind and in my heart. If I’m wrong, nothing can save me. But if I’m right or if I’m not wrong, then nothing can destroy me.”
Well said, Sooraj! The Hero actor also said that he was quiet about Jiah until now, as Salman had told him so. Watch this video to know more about Sooraj Pancholi said about Jiah Khan. (Photos: Yogen Shah and publicity still.)
