Sridevi made her acting debut as a child actor at the age of four in 1967 and made her Bollywood debut as a heroine in Solva Sawan in 1979. However, success came her way when she starred opposite Jeetendra in Himmatwala in 1983. The film became one of the biggest blockbusters of the year and Sridevi’s number “Nainon Mein Sapna” became a rage. She returned with Jeetendra in Tohfa in 1984 and that only further cemented her position in Hindi film industry and made this jodi a ‘superhit’. The two went on to do 17 more films together, including Mawali, Dharam Adhikari, Sarfarosh, Aag Aur Shola, Ghar Sansar and more.

It is little surprise then that the veteran actor is in shock and deeply saddened by the sudden demise of a dear colleague. Talking to Zee Media in a heart to heart chat, Jeetendra said, “Sridevi was a talented actress, a great human being and epitome of beauty. Her passing away like this is shocking. When I  first heard about the news, I was not ready to believe it is the Sridevi Kapoor that’s being talked about. I thought its someone else with the same name. But when I realised it is her, all the beautiful memories that I have shared with her flashed into my mind. It is painful to accept that she is no more,” said the actor with a heavy heart.

Jeetendra also spoke about Sridevi’s second innings in Bollywood and how she left everyone awed and impressed. “I was sure in the coming years she will continue to wow us all with her flawless performances,” said Jeetendra recalling his reaction after he watched her in English Vinglish. “I had called Boney Kapoor personally and said that his onscreen pair with Sridevi became a hit only because of her. In fact which ever actor or film she worked with/in, became a superhit. That was her aura. She was always the real superstar. Sri was not just a great actress but also a close colleague and feel a sense of emptiness with her passing away,” signed off the actor.
