Veteran actress and India’s first female superstar, Sridevi, passed away in Dubai on Saturday night. The actress was 54 and her untimely death has been nothing less than a rude shock to her family, fans, friends and the film fraternity. The actress’ husband Boney Kapoor found her unconscious in the bathroom of the Emirates Tower hotel and rushed her to the Rashid Hospital but it was too late. However, bringing her mortal remains back home to Mumbai have been a task and the family has been busy trying to get all formalities in place for repatriation the past few days.
The procedures for repatriation took longer than expected and finally, the family got all the papers and permissions in place to bring the late actress’ mortal remains back home. They are on their way as you read this and are expected to reach Mumbai tonight around 11pm. Earlier today, Boney Kapoor’s son Arjun Kapoor joined him in Dubai to be by his side in this testing time and also help him complete the procedures. In an official statement, Khushi, Janhvi, Boney Kapoor, the entire Kapoor and Ayyappan families, extended their sincere thanks to the media for their continued sensitivity and support during this emotional moment. “We are deeply bereaved and shocked with the untimely loss of Sridevi Kapoor. Late Sridevi Kapoor passed away in Dubai, UAE, on Saturday February 24th. We thank the film fraternity, media, fans of late Sridevi Kapoor and all the well-wishers for their prayers, support and sensitivity during our moment of immense grief. We request you to kindly join us in paying our last respect to a remarkable actor, beloved wife and loving mother.” They also shared information about Sridevi’s condolence meet, funeral and last rites.
As per the statement, “The condolence meeting for respected Srideviji is slated to be held on February 28, 2018 at The Celebrations Club at Garden No. 5, Lokhandwala Complex, Andheri West from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm. The funeral and last rites will be held at Vile Parle Seva Samaj Crematorium and Hindu Cemetery, Next to Pawan Hans, SV Road, Vile Parle West from 3.30 to 5 pm.” The last journey will commence at 2 pm from Celebration Sports Club to Pawan Hans.
Meanwhile in Mumbai, the actress’ daughters Janhvi and Khushi and other family members are all gathered at Anil Kapoor’s Juhu residence since Saturday night. Karan Johar, Rani Mukerji, Rekha, Manish Malhotra, Vaibhavi Merchant, Neelima Azim, Annu Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Rajinikanth, Madhuri Dixit, Sara Ali Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan, amongst other Bollywood celebs have been visiting the Juhu bungalow to condole the actress’ death.
At the last rites on Wednesday, we are expecting to see a sea of fans and Sridevi’s friends and colleagues from the various film industries she has worked in to bid her the final adieu.
