Actor Suriya’s wife Jyothika is all set to shine on the silver screen. The trailer of her film ‘Magalir Mattum’ released today and fans can’t stop singing praises seeing her impeccable performance. Today at the film’s audio launch event in Chennai, the actress not just expressed her happiness in doing a strong female-oriented movie but also spoke extensively on how women are treated in films. The actress’ family members including her hubby Suriya, brother-in-law Karthi and elder sister Nagma were present for the event.

After doing ‘36 Vayadhinile’, Jyothika has returned with a strong women-centric film and it was something she has been longing to do since quite a while. She plays the role of a modern documentary filmmaker in it and she gave the credit for portraying her as a young, go-getter woman to the film’s director Bramma. During the audio launch event she said, “Thank you Bramma for giving me my ‘youth’ back as the actresses are considered old at 30,” reports ieEntertainment. She also said, “I think he is the first director to do so and I thank him for giving me a new onscreen image.” (ALSO READ: Magalir Mattum trailer: Housewives will be all smiles after watching Jyothika and her team in this female-centric movie)

Jyothika even talked about how women in films are treated on which she requested the directors to bring an end to it. She requested the directors to give women some dignity in films. The actress was quoted saying, “I have a message for big film directors. Please give some dignity to women in your films. Treat them like the women in your family and life. Heroes have a large fan following and their onscreen roles make a major impact on the youth. So we are very socially responsible for what is happening to women in India. Cinema has a big impact on youth. Please don’t portray women as bimbos. At least make women in your films look smart and don’t degrade them with double entendres, and vulgar introduction scenes. And don’t show it is ok for heroes to have three or four girlfriends as it will influence the youngsters.”
