Veteran Telegu actor Vizag Prasad, as he is known by his colleagues, passed away early Sunday morning after suffering cardiac arrest. Prasad, who was 75, had according to reports, been admitted to a Yashoda Hospital in Hyderabad for treatment of a prolonged illness. Prasad, whose real name is Kollam Parvati Varaprasada Rao, is survived by his wife Vidyawati and two children.
Prasad, who was born in Gopalapatnam, Visakhapatnam, earned himself the nickname Vizag since he was from that area. The moniker stuck when he started acting and it later became his screen name. He has worked for more than 30 years in the Telugu film industry and has acted in over 175 movies.
He got his first break in the 1983 release Babai Abbai, and from there he starred in numerous supporting roles in movies like Nuvvu Nenu, Jai Chiranjeevi and Bhadra. Prasad even made a brief cameo appearance in Rajinikanth starrer Sivaji as a CBI officer.
Prasad was last seen on-screen in 2017 movie Idhi Maa Prema Katha. The film starred Ravi and Meghana Lokesh in the lead role and was directed by Karthik Kodakandla. He was a very popular figure in the South Indian film industry and had worked with many generations of Tollywood actors.
