Viswasam, which is an action drama written and directed by Siva and starring Ajith Kumar and Nayanthara in lead roles, is still going strong at the box office in its seventh week running. The movie, which is set to be streamed on Amazon Prime, has already touched Rs 200 crore in just 43 days that too while it clashed with Rajinikanth’s Petta. Reports suggest that 70 per cent of the film’s collection came from Tamil Nadu where it is still doing a decent business.

According to a report in The Hindu, producer ‘Sathya Jyothi’ Thyagarajan spoke about the success of the movie worldwide and how it has attracted a good number of viewers because of its family-friendly story.

“It is the biggest in my career. The film is a blockbuster and credit for that should go to Ajith, director Siva and the entire team. It has roughly grossed around Rs 125 to 130 crores in Tamil Nadu alone. The lifetime distributors’ share would be between Rs 70 to Rs 75 crores. It is phenomenal by any yardstick. The content attracted family audiences and the release date was perfect; we got a wide release in nearly 600 screens that worked to our advantage,” he was quoted as saying.

Film trade analyst Ramesh Bala had tweeted that Viswasam is headed for a big release in Telegu on March 1, which would definitely boost the collections of the movie. He had also tweeted that the movie, which was released on January 10 has survived 22 new Tamil releases.

On the movie being released on Amazon Prime, a Twitter user had asked why movies that are still successfully running in theatres being streamed online.

Viswasam, which was released on over 582 screens and is still running in over 110 theatres in its 7th week in Tamil Nadu, has, according to Ramesh Bala, had a very successful run in Bengaluru, Jaffna, Toronto and is slowly making inroads into Sri Lankan Tamil audience.
