Arrested by the Mumbai police for his connection in an alleged rape case, popular TV actor and singer Karan Oberoi has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days. The notice was issued on Thursday by a Magistrate Court in Mumbai, before whom Karan was produced after being remanded to police custody till Wednesday. As per a report published in Zee News, the Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin fame star has allegedly been blackmailing a female astrologist for money. The report claims that he met the woman on a dating app in the year 2016 after which they started dating each other.
”Oberoi not only raped the woman and filmed the act but also demanded money from the victim threatening to release the video if she did not pay up” read the FIR made by the woman against the actor. The FIR was filed by the accuser at the Oshiwara Police station in Mumbai, under sections 376 (rape) and 384 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code against Karan Oberoi, after which the Police took immediate action and arrested Karan in the morning, on May 6. The woman in the report claimed that Karan called her at his flat in the past where he promised to marry her. She accused the actor of raping her and recording her on a video that he used later to extort money from her.
According to Karan’s sister Vaani Oberoi, the woman was lying and putting forth a calculated charge. There were reports that Karan even broke down during the court proceeding on May 6 while Vaani asserted that her brother was being framed. As per her statement to SpotBoye.com, Karan had revealed to her about being harassed by a woman he met online and she kept calling him while they were having a conversation after which Vaani suggested him to install a CCTV camera as a precautionary measure.
Apart from his sister, Karan’s friends Pooja Bedi and members of his band have come out in support of the actor, holding a press meet in the same context on May 7. It should be noted that Karan is also a singer and has been the member of the popular band – A Band of Boys. He has crooned hits like Meri Neend and Gori along with his band members.
