That Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma will be paired as the lead actors in Yash Raj Film’s new production, Sui Dhaaga — Made in India is already known but did you know that director Sharat Katariya of Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015) fame along with producer, Maneesh Sharma, had first approached Ranbir Kapoor for the role? Yes, you heard right. Ranbir who is currently vacationing in New York after wrapping up the New York shoot for Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanjay Dutt biopic has no new projects, apart from Ayaan Mukerji’s superhero film, Dragon.
Apparently, the Jagga Jasoos actor had been in conversation with several filmmakers, like Shoojit Sircar and Pyaar Ka Punchnama fame Luv Ranjan for possible film projects, but nothing seemed to appeal to him. That’s when Katariya and Sharma approached him with the script of Sui Dhaaga. According to Rajeev Masand’s weekly column in Open magazine, the Jagga Jasoos actor reportedly kept the director waiting for a definite answer for several months. Despite having admitted to the filmmaker that the project had piqued his interest, kept the director-producer duo hanging as he was unsure if that’s what he wanted to do next. It’s only when they urged for an answer that Ranbir entirely pulled out of the project. However, he continued to praise the project within his social circle. The filmmaker then approached Varun who had already heard good things about the script and wasted no time to give a nod to the script. And the rest we know is history. Maneesh and Sharat had first joined hands for Dum Laga Ke Haisha (DLKH) that went on to win the National Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi, apart from several other awards and accolades. Let’s hope that we get to see them recreate the same magic with Sui Dhaaga — Made in India.
