Actress Vidya Balan is all set for her next project, a Tamil remake of 2016 social thriller movie Pink, which was directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury and which starred actors Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Andrea Tariang, Angad Bedi, Piyush Mishra, and Dhritiman Chatterjee. Vidya will be starring opposite actor Ajith, who will be playing Amitabh’s role in the Tamil version.

Vidya, who has been making her way into south Indian cinema, is very much a part of the Tamil remake of Pink, as confirmed by producer Boney Kapoor in an interview to Mid-Day. Though it is said that she will only be making a cameo appearance, Boney revealed the actress will in fact have a vital role to play in the movie.

“I [wouldn’t call it] a special appearance. There are certain changes that the director [H Vinoth] has incorporated to suit the Tamil market, and Vidya’s character has been accordingly written,” Boney said.

Boney went on to say that south star Ajith, who worked with Sridevi in English Vinglish, had suggested to the late actress the remake of the movie, and she had immediately agreed.

The Hindi version of Pink was released on September 16, 2016, and it had received widespread critical acclaim, and garnered the National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues.

Vidya is no stranger to south Indian cinema, as she will be making her debut in Telugu cinema with a biopic on NTR. The biopic will be released in two parts titled, N.T.R: Kathanayakudu and N.T.R: Mahanayakudu. The first part will be about the rise of Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao as an actor, and the second about his political rise.
