After avoiding a clash with Thalapthy Vijay’s Mersal during Diwali, Chiyaan Vikram’s Sketch has been pushed once again to avoid clash with Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai. After missing the Diwali date, the film was being considered to for Christmas release. However, the great buzz that Salman – Katrina Kaif’s Tiger Zinda Hai trailer has created across the country, forced the makers of Sketch to push the date further.
As per the buzz in the industry, the film is now being considered for a Pongal 2018 release. However, even then it will have to fight some competition. Suriya’s Thaanaa Serndha Koottam with director Vignesh ShivN has been locked for Pongal and the film is nearly complete so there is no reason for postponing it. But trade is abuzz that this clash may not affect Vikram’s film since both the films will have a five-day long period to attract audience and since the film is being produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu (of Rajinikanth’s Kabali fame), he will ensure that the film gets maximum screens.
While Vikam’s Sketch is an action thriller, and Suriya’s Thaanaa Serndha Koottam is a rom-com, the two belong to different genres and therefore will not eat into each other’s business. However, releasing Sketch alongside Mersal or Tiger Zinda Hai, both action thrillers, would have divided audience and therefore it was better deemed to postpone it to another date. Let’s hope that pushing the film proves a good decision for Vikram and the wait for the film turns out to be worth it for the audience. The film stars Tamannaah Bhatia as Vikram’s love interest.
