Despite clearance from the CBFC and a stay on ban from Supreme Court, various Rajput outfits in the country are still protesting against the screening of Padmaavat. Even though the film is scheduled for a January 25, 2018 release, protesters have been issuing threats of burning down movie halls and even blowing up theatres in some places not caring about loss to life or property. Amid all this, actress Renuka Shahane, has posted a strong message to the protesters which if taken seriously, would actually made a lot of sense for a country lie ours.

In her facebook post, Renuka has posted a picture of an ongoing Padmaavat protest, with the crowd holding poster of the film asking for a Ban. In turn, the actress is seen holding placards with Ban Rape, Ban Female Foeticide and Ban Sexual Molestation written bold and clear on them. The post is going viral right, winning the internet with sentiments of people from all over resonating with Renuka’s message. If you may recall, the whole controversy around Padmaavat (back then Padmavati) started when Rajput Karni Sena alleged that history has been distorted and their Rani Padmini has been shown in a wrong light. To avenge the character assassination of their Goddess Queen by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, they announced a whooping bounty on the filmmaker’s head and on lead actress Deepika Padukone’s nose.

In one bold message Renuka has outlined how this outrage on a work of fiction, based on another work of fiction is misplaced and how the anger could be better channeled to stop the real crimes against women and girls in the country. Especially, female foeticide which is still rampant in many states in Rajasthan and Haryana. Perhaps, Karni Sena, which calls itself a group that is formed to protect all Rajasthanis, needs some ideas to choose their battles.
