Aamir Khan’s onscreen daughters Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra left everyone speechless with their fabulous performance in ‘Dangal’ and the reason behind this is the efforts the dhaakad girls took to act like real wrestlers. It was obvious they cannot be like Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat but their hard-work paid off. Their wrestling did not look fake. This was the first time ever that Fatima, Sanya, Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar were learning to wrestle. How much ever they were hurt, they never said a no. In this video you’ll see how the girls prepped themselves to play not just Aamir’s onscreen daughters but even how they took the effort to portray the characters Geeta and Babita.

Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra revealed that they had to wake up early in the morning and start working out. Their body used to ache but they never uttered a word about it fearing the makers of the film might just remove them because they cannot take the risks. The girls learned the art of wrestling six days a week and not alternate days. This practice went about for eight to nine months. Sanya tells how they feared thinking what if anyone tells that they are not physically strong and hence cannot continue working for ‘Dangal’. That fear kept the girls going and not telling anyone even if they were in terrible pain. (ALSO READ: Dangal behind-the-scene video: Meet Aamir Khan’s dhaakad wife – Sakshi Tanwar!)

These girls were given the training as that of Indian Women’s wrestling team but by toning down the intensity. When Zaira Wasim was selected trainer Kripa Shankar felt that she was very weak and there were doubts if she could wrestle. Even Aamir felt the same when he saw Zaira during the training period. But in terms of Suhani Bhatnagar that wasn’t the case. She looked very enthusiastic and it was worth watching her. The training of these girls had started four to six months prior to the shoot of the film and Aamir Khan’s concern was what if they get exhausted. Zaira Wasim’s wrestling part was a big tension for everyone thinking how she’ll deliver it when the scenes are being actually shot. But things turned out to be totally opposite. She was bang on when the camera rolled. She fought like a lioness, says Aamir Khan. Coming to Fatima, she even fractured her leg but she never gave up. She had lot of wrestling scenes and so the responsibility was huge on her. Watch in the video linked below how Aamir Khan’s dhaakad girls became strong, how their fitness level and stamina increased.
