There’s a war on the weekend on Indian television for the ones who primarily watch Hindi shows. At least five top shows are fighting for ratings on the tube. The Kapil Sharma Show has a big tussle with rival show Comedy Nights Live and its sister show Comedy Nights Bachao. And then are other reality shows like So You Think You Can Dance, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2016 and India’s Got Talent. What does India watch on the weekend, really? Let’s take a look at the shows.

The Kapil Sharma Show – Rise and Fall

Kapil Sharma exited from Colors and his own show Comedy Nights with Kapil with much publicity – negative that turned positive when he bagged another show, The Kapil Sharma Show on rival channel Sony Entertainment Television. The Kapil Sharma Show opened with a bang with a live premiere show in Delhi toplining Shah Rukh Khan. But the subsequent episodes are giving the ‘same old same old’ feeling. Take heart. It’s only gonna air for 26 episodes. Watch episode 1 of The Kapil Sharma Show. (ALSO SEE: The Kapil Sharma Show: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan looks beautiful in off-white outfit)

So You Think You Can Dance – Ab India Ki Baari: But is India ready?

Like Kapil Sharma, Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit-Nene too said goodbye to Colors and the popular dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. With the great dancer Madhuri as judge, the show soared to greater heights but there was nothing left for her to do. Having been replaced by younger actor Shahid Kapoor, another judge exited the show – Karan Johar. Whatever happens to Jhalak, Madhuri landed a new show with & TV – So You Think You Can Dance – Ab India Ki Baari. The superhit international dance reality show finally came to India.

But the question is, is India ready for another such show? We have Jhalak, Nach Baliye, Just Dance, Dance India Dance, and also dances on India’s Got Talent. Do we need any more? But So You Think You Can Dance has given a couple of interesting audition episodes and let’s give it some time to see what they are doing.

Comedy Nights Live & Comedy Nights Bachao: Avenging Kapil

These are two comedy shows started by Colors, back-to-back, when Kapil Sharma showed them the middle finger. Comedy Nights Bachao began when Comedy Nights with Kapil went once-a-week. The Krushna Abhishek and Bharti comedy show is in the ‘roast’ format. It’s come up with some really good comedy and roasts of its very sporting guests – admit it!

After CNWK went off air completely, Colors was in a fix to fill the slot on Sundays. That’s when Comedy Nights Live was born. It was the same format as CNWK and Colors showed Kapil who is the boss really. The show with Krushna Abhishek and team also garnered good ratings initially.

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2016: Classic show

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, Zee TV’s super popular and first such show in India was earlier called Sa Re Ga Ma. Hosted by Sonu Nigam then and built by the Antakshri team, this show remains as popular and even has a version for children called Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs. But the music reality show is marred by similar outings on TV. Although the scale and format of Indian Idol are very different. It’s surprising then, that even with its gems, the buzz around Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2016 is not great. Maybe once the elimination rounds get tougher and performances even better, it’ll be good. But then again, maybe I’m wrong. Connoisseurs do watch it.

India’s Got Talent 2016 Season 7 – what’s new?

This is like the circus or the nautanki. It has everything – any format, any talent, you can come her. Dance, perform magic, stunts, sing, do sand art, jugglery, what have you – that’s India’s Got Talent for you. But the 2016 version has got lost in the comedy shows and hardcore dance and music shows on the weekend. Those who like variety, may come to India’s Got Talent Season 7.

So, tell us, what do you watch on the weekend of these top six shows in Hindi?
