Did you know that Ranbir Kapoor did not want his ex-girlfriend Deepika Padukone to act in a particular Hindi film? Well, yes, you read it right and the film is none other than Cocktail. In an interview with a leading daily, Ranbir confessed, almost three years ago, that he wasn’t sure if Deepika should be a part of Homi Adajania’s Cocktail. In the interview, Ranbir was quoted as saying, “I remember we were no longer together that time but before she had signed Cocktail, she was still living at her old home and me and Ayan had gone to her house and after everyone left, I had a conversation with her. She was confused and I remember telling her that she had a potential to be a very big animal in this industry. I didn’t think that Cocktail was the right film for her and I even told her that but she was clear about her choice. But the point is that she had given me the leeway to tell her that.”
However, the film later on went on to change the trajectory of Deepika’s career. The actress received rave reviews for her role in the film by both, the critics and the audiences alike. She not only proved Ranbir wrong but left everyone in awe of her acting skills. Speaking about the interview in question, it was during the same time when the actor confessed of continuing to love her, despite having parted ways. “The amount of love I have for Deepika is like family. It’s very warm, it’s about care, about being proud of her. The facet of love, care and respect has changed but changed for the better. It’s not your immature I love her kind of feeling. It’s mature and that’s come with age. Also, we have both positively moved on with our lives,” he had said.
Ranbir and Deepika have, since their break up, acted in a few films together and to say that fans love their chemistry on screen won’t be a lie. The two continue to stay good friends even today, which in turn translates on screen when they star opposite each other in a film. Meanwhile, Deepika is reportedly in a relationship with Ranveer Singh, while Ranbir is making headlines of late due to his alleged relationship with his Brahmastra co-star, Alia Bhatt. Last month, the two of them were spotted dining in a restaurant in the city, when a fan approached them for a pic. Before Ranbir, Alia was rumoured to be dating Sidharth Malhotra.
