Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati is back in the buzz and for all the right reasons. The lead stars of the film revealed that the first look is coming out tomorrow and fans have been in frenzy. Another interesting fact related to the film is back in the reckoning. Ranveer Singh’s character of Allaudin Khilji might be shown as ‘gay’ in the film.
As per reports, “Khilji had a weakness for beardless boys and he was fascinated by Malik Kafur’s effeminate beauty. He bought the slave for a thousand Dinars during his conquest of Gujarat and Kafur slowly rose to the rank of Khilji’s chief advisor and later the Malik Naib (deputy ruler).”
There are further reports suggesting that Jim Sarbh, the baddie in Raabta and hijacker in Neerja will play the role of Malik Kafur, Khilji’s lover. While there is no confirmation as yet from the makers or the two stars involved, the fact about Allaudin Khilji’s sexual orientation is true as per historians and we can only expect director Bhansali to stay true to the facts. After all, he has already been attacked twice for allegedly distorting facts.
If the film does explore this aspect of Ranveer Singh’s onscreen character, it will be a first for a commercial film and for Ranveer as well. The actor already enjoys a huge fan following and his popularity among the LGBTQ community will only rise further.
For now, let’s see what the Padmavati first look, that’s releasing on September 21 holds for us. Contrary to reports of delay, the film is set to hit screens as per plan, on November 17. With the first look tomorrow, Padmavati stars Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer will finally kick off the promotions and have almost two months in hand to get audience excited about the film.
